Hey!
First of all, I am new to Wine, so your patience is appreciated.
I am trying to play the game 911: First Responders on my Mac (the game requires Windows) using Wine and so far I am having no luck. The game does require DirectX to play and I was reading something that says that Wine comes with DirectX (or something like that, it didn't make much sense to me...). Anyway, I would appreciate it if you could give me a quick tutorial on how to get this game working on Wine. I am completely lost!
Thanks!
Dan
Game quits right after starting. HELP!
Wine does have its own DirectX, which works for many games.
Sometimes you have to load a native DirectX dll, e.g. with
winetricks d3dx9_36
but you should only do that if it's really needed.
( Looks like your game has a german demo at
http://www.gamefront.com/files/4962929/EM4Demo_DE_zip
I'll have a look if it ever finishes downloading. )

Thank you so much for your help! What you said makes 90% sense. The second paragraph about loading a native DirectX dll does not make sense, so some clarification on that would be much appreciated. Thanks for being willing to download the demo of the game. I saw that demo available as well, but I don't think I ever actually downloaded it because I cannot say I know any German, but it may be helpful for testing. Thanks again for your help and please let me know what you find!DanKegel wrote:Wine does have its own DirectX, which works for many games.

So, the demo (made in 2006 or so) hangs, and slows down the
system a whole lot, right after the splash pong video.
Running in a virtual desktop makes it easier to kill the game when this happens.
You can work around the hang with 'winetricks quartz devenum',
but the frame rate of the game is terrible on my system,
it's not playable. And all the video seems to be upside down...

Okay, so for me, what would you suggest I do? And remember, I am a complete novice, so please talk in simple terms.DanKegel wrote:So, the demo (made in 2006 or so) hangs, and slows down the
