Sketchup 8

I gave up about year ago on this issue, but now i have removed my win partition and REALLY need to get the good 'ol sketchup running.
Already tried basic debugging tips posted on the wiki page (eg. editing registry, turning FX off, unchecking "always show at startup").
Yet no luck. It seems to be loading all tools, even the screen can be seen for a fraction of a second, and then it crashes with no errors whatsoever.

HP 8510w
Ubuntu 10.10
Wine 1.2.3 (this version as it's the latest that can be patched with Ableton Live patch)
Nvidia driver 260.19.06

According to the AppDB, Sketchup works fine in 1.3.15 and later. Upgrade to current, unpatched Wine and retest.

You can have two different versions of wine installed side by side,
just put the app that needs the patched version of wine in its own wineprefix.

Did you do a fresh install in a clean wineprefix (no winetricks or other tweaks)? If not, do that. If it still doesn't work, post terminal output.

Well, meanwhile i managed to delete my home folder:D
Anyway, fresh 10.10 installation, latest wine, installed sketchup, changed GL value in the registry to 1, ran Sketchup. Results:

Who told you to do that? I said NO TWEAKS.

Something is wrong with your graphics driver. Try reinstalling.

Sorry, i obviously define 'tweakls' differently.

Reinstalled driver to the latest - 275.21.
Created new prefix, installed google onto it and ran. On the first go it seemed somewhat ok. It worked, though with awful performance. After few minutes it crashed. On the second run i got the old 'Sketchup was unable to initialize OpenGL ! Please make sure you have installed..." error, which should go away with that GL registry tweak.

PS i have misunderstood prefixes the whole time. Is there any difference when i 1) install program in different prefix using something like

or 2) run the program, which is installed onto default prefix, under different prefix:

PPS DanKegel told two different wine versions can be used. According to wiki, i'd have to compile new from source code in order to achieve this. Is there any way i could install my already compiled wine from .deb file next to this version?

I cheated again and edited the registry. Got rid of the OpenGL error, as expected, and Sketchup ran awfully for about minute.

That will not work with any app that makes changes to the registry. If you have been doing that, that may be the cause of your problems. You need to install the app into the wineprefix you are running it from.

You shouldn't be getting that error in the first place. If you are on a 64 bit system, did you install the necessary 32 bit parts?

I do not get that error, and Sketchup runs for me without crashing, out of the box. This is on an nvidia 8400GS, 270.41.06 driver.

Don't know then.
Tried Nvidia 275.21, 270.41.19 and 260.19.44 drivers.
Latest seems to be best in this instance, yet it can't seem to run sketchup longer than a minute.

Tried SketchUp 7.0.10247 - same deal, except it runs a bit longer.

Also i found the performance getting better by resizing window to smaller dimensions.

Have experimented with different settings, sketchup is still a no go.
As no one has had "Segmentation fault" with Sketchup, might it be just my system's problem and leave it be (and keep Win partition for that matter:D)
