Airfoil in wine

Post by frankh »

Has anyone successfully installed Airfoil in wine? When I install it (Linux distro: Mint/Ubuntu 11), wine complains about .NET 2 missing. But it seems to install this automatically without problems. However, the Airfoil installation "ends" with this:

Airfoil has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. (Standard Microsoft message)

Then:

The program Airfoil.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. (wine error message)

The installation "completes", however. Then, when I try to run the program from the ...drive_c/Program Files..... folder, this error message shows:

** (./Airfoil.exe:11118): WARNING **: The following assembly referenced from /home/frank/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Airfoil/Airfoil.exe could not be loaded:

Check First

Post by SpawnHappyJake »

Always check to see if the program you are trying to run through WINE has a native version for your operating system or if there is an equivalent alternative that runs natively in your operating system, first.

Always check the AppDB for your program, second:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=17399

The AppDB says to use AirFoil Speakers for Linux. Don't bother trying to get it working in WINE.

Well, hope it works for you.

Cheers,

That first part is just silly. Of course I wouldn't run anything in wine if I didn't have to. Airfoil is the only application of its kind, on any platform/OS.

And as for Airfoil speakers: That's a completely different program than the main Airfoil application.

So, it doesn't work. Another thing that doesn't work in the crap called wine. Thanks for the heads-up.

BTW: Does it really say something as retarded as that? That's like saying "Photoshop doesn't work for you Windows version? Use Pro Logic Audio instead, then".

Sheesh

Well, sorry about that. I just did a quick search to see if I could find anything that could help...apparently not. And sorry you feel that way about Wine. There are many situations where Wine really does the trick.
Cheers,
