how to install the 1 Witcher?

Hello,i had install The Witcher with Wine 1.3.3 succefully.
After i placed the patch 1.5 in the system folder to The Witcher.
But when i start the game i had just the intro of the game after i had a screen black with my cursor.
I am with Linux Mint 11 64 bytes.
Can i have help please,tanks.

We're on WINE 1.3.22 now. You should upgrade your WINE. Also, have you checked the AppDB? It has some registry tweaks to assist in getting the first Witcher to run better. Witcher 1.5 is rated at gold. Can you confirm that you successfully updated Witcher to 1.5? In other words, did the patch get applied correctly? So far health and mana bars don't show up, that's further along than you are now.

The WINE AppDB is the WINE Application Database. It is a very important part of the WINE project.
Just go to http://appdb.winehq.org to see it.
It is a list of Windows computer programs and how well each works in WINE. Each program is rated as garbage, bronze, silver, gold, or platinum.
Here are the rating definitions: http://appdb.winehq.org/help/?sTopic=maintainer_ratings

The way it works is that there are different program entries that represent all versions of a Windows program, and within those entries are sub-entires for each version of the program tested.

Here's an example for you: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=13127. That is an entry that represents the program IconsExtract. Within that entry are entries for individual versions of IconsExtract.

Within each entry for each version submitted, is at least one Test Result.

A Test Result is a report saying how well a certain version of a Windows program worked (garbage, bronze, silver, gold, platinum), what version of WINE was used, and what operating system was used.
Also in the test result is information saying what worked, what didn't, and additional comments.
The "Additional Comments" section is often where you find the really good stuff...the tricks they had to do to get it to work. Registry editing, dll overrides, winetricks, patches...etc.

In the left menu are links to browse for apps, submit a test result, and other things.

So go to the AppDB, look up "The Witcher", update your WINE, do what they did to get The Witcher 1.5 to work (apply the patch first), and maybe, just maybe, it won't give you that error.

I believe once you have upgraded to patch 1.5 there is no need to register the game anymore (the GOG.com version is at patch 1.5 and you don't need to register it). That said you should be able to use the internet to do so anyway if you want to. Maybe the problem is that you don't have gecko in your Wine install? I've heard tell that if you don't include it The Witcher 1 game launcher doesn't work quite right - maybe that's what is generating the internet error? Honestly I'm not sure though you don't need to run the game launcher. Once instaled and patched, you can run the Witcher executable itself which is in "the Witcher's folder/System/witcher.exe".

However, SpawnHappyJake is right, you should go to the AppDB page for the Witcher and follow the instructions to install the game (the main thing is to use winetricks to download native direct x 9 dll's). So do indeed go to the AppDB page and hopefully that will clear up some of your issues.

I think you can download the various engines from here: http://www.winehq.org/download/, but as for getting things to work ... I use a Mac so I suspect someone else, another Linux user would be better to help you.

BTW have you tried Google Translate? It might help with your understandability. Perhaps you can also write your post twice? Once in French and once in English. Ca c'est toujours bon, j'utilise la version 1.3.13 et le jeu est functionnaire. J'ai une probleme avec les "saved games" (je ne connais pas le mot) mais quelq'un d'autre aussi a la meme probleme et il utilize 1.3.22. Alors il n'est pas une fonction de la Wine version. Vous devriez etre bien avec 1.3.15 pour le Witcher 1. Cependant vous devriez apprendre comment d'upgrader depuis eventuallement vous aurez besoin de la faire.
