entering CD key issue

I'm using wine 1.4 available in the official Ubuntu repository. I'm having the problem of entering cd key in many(almost all) applications like Call of duty 2, Age of Empires 3, Microsoft Office 2010 etc. Is there any general solution or alternative technique for entering cd key. Will updating to wine 1.6 help? I checked the appdb page for these three apps and installed the winetricks packages required but still couldn't get any workaround for the issue.

meteors2313 unless application is listed not working with 1.6 or 1.7 in the appdb we will not do support on 1.4.

There is a very good chance that 1.6 will fix things. There have been many issues with ubuntu 1.4 that magically disappear when people change to 1.6.
