Unfortunately yes. Even on really fast machines it would take something like 20 minutes. It depends on your harddisk (mostly) and CPU. If your harddisk is older, it will take much longer. An SSD would probably help ;-)

Ok patch doesn't work at all still not running programs. from what I gather no one knows what is going on and the bug is quite perplexing. they want me to run a FULL regression test I have no idea what im doing I have the walkthrough but im still confused

so the status of the bug changed to resolved upstream what does this mean??? and iv updated to 1.7.1 and it still fails to initialize

The bug is in Mesa, not Wine. It's been fixed in Mesa, so you need to get the latest version of that. As to where, ask your distro. You may need to build it yourself.
