Problem installing MSoffice 2007 in ubuntu13.04

Post by nns2006 »

Hello,
I am trying to install msoffice 2010 on ubuntu 13.04 32bit with wine version 1.6 (added by ppa). Everytime following all the advice written in how-to's I reach at only one outcome-"Runtime error." and when I try to get more information from wine it doesn't respond-just empty window.
Here is the terminal output for error (I pressume so).

Code: Select all

wine setup.exe
wine: Unhandled exception 0x40000015 in thread 9 at address 0x7bc30073:0x30029af7 (thread 0009), starting debugger...

I am stuck at the first step itself.
Any advice/suggestions/guidance in installing is highly welcome.

thanks and regards

Your subject says Office 2007, your post says Office 2010.

I don't know what howtos you've been following; the only ones supported here are in the AppDB. Those all call for a clean wineprefix, which the error popup from Microsoft Visual C++ tells me you don't have.

Delete the wineprefix and start over with a clean one (no native dlls or other tweaks, nothing else installed). If you are on 64 bit, you will need to create a 32 bit one. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#32_bit_wineprefix

If it doesn't work in a clean wineprefix, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

Sorry for wrong subject. I was following the how-to's given here only. But every time it is giving me same error. I deleted the .wine folder completely and agains tried to run setup.exe for office 2010. But again I got the same pop up and here is terminal output

Code: Select all

nityanand@Vostro-1500:/media/nityanand/OFFICE14$ wine setup.exe
fixme:advapi:RegisterTraceGuidsA (0x2e034c1f, 0x2e0b3d78, {8736922d-e8b2-47eb-8564-23e77e728cf3}, 1, 0x32fd08, (null), (null), 0x2e0b3d78,): stub
wine: Unhandled exception 0x40000015 in thread 9 at address 0x7bc30073:0x2e05c184 (thread 0009), starting debugger...
And I was following from http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=17336

Thanks and regards,

By "same popup" do you mean Wine's crash dialog, or the popup from Visual C++?

By pop up I mean Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library "Runtime error" dialog whose picture I have attached earlier.

Then you don't have a clean wineprefix. Wine's builtin vcrun does not have GUI error messages, so you must have installed Microsoft's. You shouldn't.

Do you mean to say I did it using wintricks or something for wine? As far as I know, I deleted all the .wine folder and content before installing. Even if they are installed, how can I locate them to remove?
Yesterday, I removed wine completely from my system then I deleted all the folders containing or suspecting to contain wine component which I can think of. then I reinstall wine 1.6 using wine ppa. Now you tell me what i would have done or how come something is getting installed even though I am not doing it or unaware of it.

best regards

I don't know what you did, but that popup message is not coming from Wine. I also just tested my Office 2010 installer in 1.7.1, and it completes without any problems. However, there are differences between various editions of Office. What edition (Standard, Pro, etc.) do you have, what language is it, and is it on a cd or downloaded from Microsoft?

Mine is 2010 professional plus in english 32bit. I have the image of it. I am using wine 1.6 through ppa.

wineprefix is the ~.wine?

Anyway, to avoid incompatibilities with older or other office apps, use ISO standardized *.odt documents.
