Ubuntu 13.04 + wine 1.5 + World of Warcraft

Post by amithiel »

Hello,

I'm sorry, i know this topic is spreaded all over the foruns, i spent 2 days googling. Problem is: all the info i found is alwas 2...3 years old.
I'm getting 20 fps on wow...almost not playable.
First, all the info you might need:

My specs:

- Asus ultrabook S56CM
- Core i7 1.9Ghz
- 6 GB Ram
- nvidia gt635M 2GB
- intel HD 4000

I'm using Ubuntu 13.04 x64 as my only OS. And GOD help me, i don't want to dualboot to play this game.
I'm only asking for at least 50...maybe 60 fps. In windows i got about 100+ fps.
i installed wine, no special tweaks i've made (maybe thats the problem)
Basically, i just want some tips & tweaks i can do to improove the game just a little.

Some aditional info:

I have bumblebee installed, so i can use nvidia. if i try to launch the game using:
"wine path/wow.exe" -> i get an error saying directx is not installed.
If i run the game with " optirun wine path/wow.exe" , the game runs, but with 20 fps. I suppose its using nvidia, right?

The kernel is the default one, i installed ubuntu some days ago, so i don't really changed anything besides the themes and such.
Thanks in advanced for all the help you can give me guys

Hi,

try to install WoW via playonlinux. This will solve the dependencies which you have in 13.04.

On youtube there is avideo tutorial availbale (not mine!):

Hi,

I'm not playing WoW and don't have bumblebee, so can't test it myself.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=28228 mentions that you could edit the file "config.wtf" to render via OpenGL. In that appdb article there's a discussion below ("low FPS"), which mentions, that one should "chmod +x config.wtf", though I have to admit, that I do not understand the logic behind that at all. If it's bogus, please leave a comment in the mentioned discussion.
