Wine 1.6 on 12.04 Precise LTS?

Post by Bamm »

Will 1.6 be ported to Ubuntu 12.04 Precise LTS? I see the 1.6 rc's are out. Is there a guide to install the rc's in precise? Thanks for any answers.

The same installing like for 1.5. Nothing changes. You may use PPA or build yourself.

It seems that there is no wine1.6 in Ubuntu PPA yet, what's up with that?

1.6 is a release copy, or a beta freeze for Bug fixes only.

It's just a version of 1.5.?? that they, the wine team, decided to stop adding new code, and to fix the bugs in the existing code, as it's reached it pre determined set of criteria.

Its on the wine wiki, the criteria, for a stable release, and at rc5 they are close.

Either stick with 1.4.1, use the release copy, which will be as close as you can get to a full release copy at your own peril.
