Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
I am brand new to Ubuntu and Wine. I have Ubuntu 12.04 and Wine 1.4. I have been able to load and install Nike+ connect with Wine and it seems to run okay. The problem is that it doesn't recognize my Nike+ Sportwatch. The sportwatch is a USB GPS device. Ubuntu recognizes it and I can pull it up under devices in the home menu. I have read that Wine has a problem with USB detection. Since I am new to Ubuntu and the terminal commands I have not been able to get Wine to recognize the sportwatch. Any help that can be given is greatly appreciated and if it can be broken down simply that would be awesome.
Here is a link to the sportwatch if you are wondering what it is and also the Nike+ connect software. http://nikeplus.nike.com/plus/products/sport_watch/

Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
If the connection is serial over USB, you might be able to get it to work by symlinking. http://www.winehq.org/docs/wineusr-guid ... ure#AEN715
However, if the watch requires Windows hardware drivers to access it, it won't work in Wine.

Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
It isn't a serial over USB, just regular USB, and I am not sure about the windows hardware drivers. I know that there is a Mac version of the software so I would imagine that it doesn't need windows hardware drivers.
Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
The Mac version would have a Mac driver.
When you say Ubuntu "recognizes" it, what does it recognize it as?

When I say that Ubuntu recognizes it I mean that I can pull it up under the home folder in devices. The only thing that it pulls up is a txt file that has a url in it. As far as I know there aren''t any other files on it, hidden or not. I am not able to find any drivers for it on the web either.
Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
So I found this guide that supposedly should work. However I don't really know how to do this. Is this something that I should do? I am new to ubuntu and wine so some of this doesn't make sense to me. What is the wine source directory? What files am I patching? I have downloaded the file for my version of wine but don't know what files to patch. Then number 2 under "How to use USB device drivers" what is all of that about?

Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
You could try it, but it involves patching and building Wine from source, and if you are on 64 bit Ubuntu, building Wine from source is not easy. The patch is also old and may not work.

Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
So that looks more involved than what I am comfortable with at my current knowledge level of Ubuntu and wine. Isn't there are way to just go to the drives tab and add the USB that way? I would think I would be able to do something like add drive D: in the drives tab of wine config, then force drive D: to the USB device. The main problem that I have seen in my searches is that the Nike watch auto syncs with the Nike website. I can't access any of the info on it, only through nike+ connect. It isn't a local hard drive/ flash drive. Is there any other program that provides USB support? From everything I have read Wine is the best and most others use a basic wine program.
Re: Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Connect
Did anyone ever find out a solution. I am currently looking into the same problem and would love a fix.

If Nike doesn't provide linux software, you'll need dual-boot or install e.g. Windows XP in a VM like VMware or virtualbox.
There are plans for wine to support simple USB drivers in the future, but that may still take years, it doesn't have a high priority.
