CWCom and PL2303 USB Adapter on Linux Mint 15 (olivia)

Post by window shutter »

I have been running CWCOM on my windows platform for some time now, and am trying to convert myself to Linux Mint 15 ( have been trying since Mint 8 !).. So far, so good, ... I have managed to get most of my favourite windows progs to work with WINE, however,........

However, CWCom, has been a bit of a problem... I have managed to install it, and get Mint15 to recognise the PL2303 adapter and assign a COMPORT 1 to it...

CWCom linky.... http://www.mrx.com.au/d_cwcom.htm

CWCOM is a "chat program" that can use Keyboard Text, Joystick ?, mouse as morse key, or an external morse key, either old fashioned "straight" key, or iambic/bug keys, to transmit morse in place of the letters of the keyboard text.

At present the program is "sort of" working, in as much as, it seems to be working, but is not actually connecting to the external server "online"... some of the icons on the control panel are not properly displayed, however they do function as they should...

It seems that everything on the computer is working properly, except the CWCOM connection to the server is not being made...

has anyone else used this program on Linux, and can anybody suggest reasons why it is not connecting to the server.. and, of course, a solution !...

As a point of interest, there is an Icon that is used to see who is on channel, and what channels are in use.... this linky via the icon does work and connects to the server to get this information. If I bookmark it, I can get the information externally of the program too!...

I have contacted the site, and mentioned this, but he has no knowledge of Linux so cannot help...

Wine version? If it's not the latest development release, upgrade. If it still doesn't work, post terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

When I shut the CWCom program down I get a little message window with the following.....

Wine Program Crash

Internal Errors - Invalid Parameters Received

[OK]
( well, no, it`s not OK.... I`d like to know more info about what parameters and how to correct the "internal errors" ! ! )

The version that ships with your distro is not necessarily the latest version. What does

Code: Select all

wine --version
report? If it's not 1.5.31, try upgrading. If it is 1.5.31, file a bug.

OK....

gerry@gerry-Inspiron-1545 ~ $ wine --version
wine-1.5.31
gerry@gerry-Inspiron-1545 ~ $

have updated to 1.5.31 and the graphic on the icons have improved to their proper colours.... however, the program is still not connecting to the server... and on shutting down with the X it returns the "Wine Program Crash" message.

How do I "file a bug"... where, and what info is needed ? complete newbie on this linux ....

Been there, logged in, checked for a previous bug, read some stuff about a similar bug, but it is all double dutch to me, and I haven`t a clue... I am a complete noobie on this linux stuff, and entering stuff in a terminal to see what happens is like trying to find out the formula of babies milk... :(

Thanks for your help guys..... not that it has been much use.... though this Linux community was supposed tobe helping each other.... seems like , if you know nowt about it, then that is the way it will stay....

Ah well.... back to Microsoft Windows.... at least on there the programs work OOB, and you don`t NEED ANY HELP.....

People may have to pay for Microsoft Windows as an OS...but then my father used to say to me.......

"you get what you pay for".......

Linux costs nothing..... so you get nothing...
