Wine, Steam; Star Wars Force Unleashed

Post by Tumbar »

Hello community!

I have had this problem for days now...and that isn't say much about my experience so far, let me tell you! So at first I had the long, tedious task of getting Microsoft Framework 3.5 to work (and finally I did) which took me two days, but now I that I have passed all those stupid NET/Framework issues I have been hit with something I can't find anything on the internet for. When I start SWFU through any of the launchers from the folder or in Steam, I get two different error popups. The first I have pasted into Paste Bin

http://pastebin.com/kkvta3dZ

And the second pops up after I either send or don't send the above bug;

Image

Installing the game works, the requirements it needed to install worked, and now this remains, so far, to be the only issue I have.

I know it said it was only for Windows and I do have Windows, but my drive is SUPER full and I have seen/heard people play this game via Wine, so I am curious if anyone knows the solution to the problem I have? Plus I would like to play in Linux because the system is SO much safer and faster.

Thanks!

My system:

Linux Mint Maya & Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
AMD CPU
3GB Ram
EVGA Geforce 8600 gt 1GB

Hello,

Does anyone have any idea on what I can try to do to get passed this issue? I have no idea what the error log is reporting, so I cannot figure it out myself, I'm afraid. :(

Your Wine version (per the backtrace) is old. Try upgrading to the latest development release. If it still doesn't work, post the full terminal output. http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#get_log

Hi,

I updated Wine to the latest, which was 1.5, and ran Steam via the Terminal. After I finally loaded up Star Wars The Force Unleashed (I am now missing font display) and it crashed and closed, I went to my terminal to get the output, however it is continiously writing new lines down until Steam shut off. The resulting terminal output is very large;

http://pastebin.com/vJhCcsyz
(here is the new backtrace just in case; http://pastebin.com/nairDbaB)

Was I meant to run the Star Wars Steam launcher exe as well?

Thanks!

Update; sorry I had to post again, I cannot edit my posts.

Updating to 1.5 surely fixed the issues I was getting before, so yay! One step closer! :D

I completely removed Steam and Wine, purged it all, reboot and installed fresh at 1.5. I installed Star Wars The Force Unleashed onto my HDD and then clicked the "play" button. For a good long while it paused at step 2, but I decided to let it sit through the install. It took about an hour, maybe, and then it completely either skipped step 3 or went too fast for me to see. Anyway, it closed down (the installer for NET and other requirements) and brought me back to my Steam launcher screen where I can see my Library. So I am assuming it installed right because I was not given any errors.

I clicked play and nothing happens, until I double or triple click the play button and then it says "Failed to start game (app already running)". If I press it once, it opens up a new window displaying Steam Update News. However, when I downscale the Steam Window and click the icon on the bottom right, I see this;

http://s10.postimg.org/z7c6huwl5/Screen ... _09_58.png

Clicking it brings up nothing though, sadly. Then I tried to run Steam via terminal with;

Code: Select all

wine ".wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/Steam.exe" -applaunch 1234
(for me the quotes had to be there)

And it resulted in;

Code: Select all

fixme:heap:HeapSetInformation (nil) 1 (nil) 0
ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "public/steambootstrapper_english.txt".

*Also, to fix the text issue not displaying, I went into regedit via Winetricks and made a DWORD "DWrite" in the Steam folder and then set it to 0. If it is already there, though, just set it to "0". :)

The entry point method could not be loaded (< What it displays when I click play)
I have tried disabling overlayrenderer (the 64 versiont too!), enabling it, deleting the OverLayRenderer.dll and renaming it after Steam launch or before, but that doesn't work. I tried running from the Star Wars launchers as well, but same results. I even tried offline mode and checking the game cache via Steam, which took a while but reported all files successfully verified.

I'm running out of ideas. :(

Why can't posts be edited? Oh well...

Rebooted and now clicking "play" results in this backtrace;

http://pastebin.com/tF72b2qM

A popup appears saying the game crashed, just like 1.4's errors. I had a feeling something got deleted or corrupt so I ran another cache check but it reported the files as being okay.
