Post by francescospina »

I try to install office 2007 changing this dll file: : rpcrt4.dll and msxml3.msi, i had found this method in this link http://www.appunti-liberi.it/?p=1015. Before this test wine worked, because i had installed 7zip.exe. When i try to lunch wine from the terminal i have this feedback:

Outside howtos aren't supported here, and the one you followed is a good example of why. Native rpcrt4.dll will not work in Wine, and as you've discovered, breaks it completely.

You didn't mention what Wine version you're using, but if it's not the latest development release, upgrade. No native dlls are needed to install Office 2007 in current Wine.

To install Office 2007, delete the wineprefix and start over following the instructions in the AppDB. http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=4992

Initially i try to stard Office 2007 and it does't work. However my question is, can i uninstall and reinstall wine to solve this problem? how i cal cancell all? Because if i try to uninstall and reinstall i have the same problem. I'm not expert with linux, someone can help me to solve this problem step by step?

I utilise Mageia 2 and the version of wine is 1.4.1-1.2.mga2.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Wine will not solve the problem. You need to delete the wineprefix as I told you and start with a clean one. The default wineprefix is ~/.wine, which is a hidden directory in your home directory. After deleting it, run winecfg to create a fresh one, then follow the instructions in the AppDB for installing Office.

I'm solved the problem, thank you so much for the rapidly answer.

That's not the latest version, and what you've downloaded is the source code, which you would have to compile yourself. You probably don't want to do that if you don't have to, so before trying, I suggest asking on your distro's support forum if there is a current Wine package available.

You do not have the latest version; what you have is the stable release, which is old. The current development release is 1.5.26.

As for the console output you posted, I assume that is from the old version you say you are using. You need to upgrade to the latest development release and if the problem persists, post terminal output from that.

Hi,
I happen to run Mageia2 and successfully compile Wine 1.5.22 from source
so I believe someone could simply pull out my tared-gziped wine-1.5.22 directory
and type a make install to get it running ?
Of course any smarter suggestions are welcomed :D

hi, thanks for your reply
in fact I m not looking for to run Office but games and many Youtube videos say not to use newer Wine versions
(for example 1.5.9 or 1.5.12 are better to play TombRaider ..)
