Content of Steam login window does not display. (Bug 33015)

I know some people have had issue with getting Steam to run over wine 1.4.1 since the latest update (where they added Linux support). I found that by hitting Cancel at just the right time, or by running steam.exe.old, which is generated in the Steam folder after failing to update, I can get to the login screen.

BUT the content of the screen doesn't draw, so I can't navigate to login. Has anyone else seen this bug? I've filed it here.
