Wine and Civ 4 on 64-bit Mint 13 (Maya/Ubuntu 12.04)

Post by fig »

I am unable to install Civ 4 on 64-bit Mint 13 Maya (which is based on Ubuntu 12.04). I have tried this on a laptop and a desktop, both with Mint 13, kernel 3.2.0-35, and wine 1.4.1. The laptop has Nvidia graphics, while the desktop has Ati, which leads me to suspect that the problem is the 64-bitness, as I have previously had Civ 4 installed and working on 32-bit ubuntu.

The exact problem is that right at the end of CD install of Civ, an error pops up: "The program ISBEW64.exe has encountered a serious problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience". Attempts to install the patch (1.74) fail with "The program is not installed". Attempts to run the game unpatched result in nothing at all. Upon uninstallation, the error occurs again at the end.

The only other reference I can see to this error is in this forum post, with two people also using Mint 13 64-bit with Dragon Naturally Speaking http://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=17381. For them, upgrading Wine to 1.5 did not fix it.

Install to a 32 bit wineprefix. http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24611
