Assassins Creed 2 via WINE

Post by ImperiusMortis »

Hey folks, been having issues trying to get Assassins Creed 2 running via wine. I'm installing via a paid for disk, installation and update appear to run fine. The issue arises when I attempt to run the game, here is the output:

http://pastebin.com/wgasvDJZ

My distro is:
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=12.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=precise
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS"

*with kde desktop environment

I am running wine 1.5 (have tried v 1.4).

My recent installation of wine has followed this configuration tutorial:

http://www.unixmen.com/install-and-conf ... nt-fedora/

I have trailed online for quite some time - all to no avail. ANY information regarding the issue will be greatly appreciated. If you require anymore information (which you probably will) just let me know x)

Thanks for your time, Nick.

Code: Select all

err:winediag:wined3d_dll_init The GLSL shader backend has been disabled. You get to keep all the pieces if it breaks.
That seems pretty clear to me.
My recent installation of wine has followed this configuration tutorial:
Outside howtos are not supported here.

Reinstall in a clean wineprefix (no winetricks or other tweaks, no other apps/games installed).

Thanks for your prompt reply x)

My apologies, I wasn't aware. I have now completely removed wine and all of its components. Reinstalled wine 1.5.

Installation of Assassins Creed was successful. The following is output in terminal upon execution:

After a while, a dialog box appears stating 'Internal errors - invalid parameters received'.

Thanks, Nick.

UPlay (UBisoft platform to play at their games) does not works with wine < 1.5.8
Compile and built yourself wine 1.5.19. Actually, i use it and AC2/Brotherhood/ACR work without problems.

Thanks for your advice! I removed my version of wine and have installed v 1.5.9. Again installation of AC2 seemed successful. This time it complains when auto patching.

Here is the output from term:

http://pastebin.com/JGsUbaEN

An error message appears 'Patching of the Ubisoft Game Launcher failed. if it persists, reinstall game'.

I haven't had a chance to play with it probably today, out of curiosity - is patching supported through this system?

I understand this maybe a different situation to before - in which case I shall I returned to trailing the net for a solution, if you are familiar with this situation could you point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your help guys!

The error come from (I think) these messages :

Code: Select all

fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0xc014f20) stub
fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0xbfc6450) stub

fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0x258480) stub
fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0x10007468) stub
fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0x6575fa00) stub
fixme:msvcr90:__clean_type_info_names_internal (0x6721eb20) stub
The Ubisoft Game Launcher into the AC2 DVD is very old so you are 2 choices :
- Install vcrun2005 from winetricks and relaunch AC2
- Delete your prefix, install UPlay with this executable (http://static3.cdn.ubi.com/orbit/launch ... taller.exe) and install your game.

Thanks, installing vcrun2008 allowed Uplay to run. I can log into the service and see AC2. However when I click to play the game, it simply attempts to open, then I'm presented with the after game report x\.

Here is the output:

http://pastebin.com/RRSVXWVj

There seems to be an error with a network service

Code: Select all

network_change_notifier_win.cc(111)] WSALookupServiceBegin
This occurs when Uplay is first started. Could this be the cause of this behaviour?

Thanks, Nick.

In fact, you use an old wine version.

When you launch UPlay and go to AC2 you are the possibility to launch the game with "Play" or "Launch in Safe Mode".
To see "Launch in Safe Mode", click on the arrow to the right of Play (you must see this option and "uninstall" option).

Since wine 1.5.19, you can launch Ubisoft games with "Play" but with the old version (like you with wine 1.5.9), you must to launch the game in safemode. :)
