wine-gecko >= 1.8 is needed by wine-1.5.18-200.1.i586

Post by expatmark »

I am trying to upgrade from wine 1.4 to wine 1.5.
When I use rpm -Uvh wine-1.5.18-200.1.i586.rpm
it fails with the following error.
error: Failed dependencies:
wine-gecko >= 1.8 is needed by wine-1.5.18-200.1.i586

But I have installed this version of wine-geko on my machine. So why is it failing? Is the rpm looking in the wrong place?

I am running Open SuSE 12.1

How did you install wine-gecko? If it was the openSUSE wine-gecko package, report the problem to the package maintainer. If you got it anywhere else, use the openSUSE package.

Initially I downloaded it manually from the wine-gecko site. When I encountered the problem I removed it and used the install-addons.sh script from this site and still had the problem.

The Open SuSE package is no use as the latest version of wine-gecko available by that route, which I already have installed, is 1.4 and wine 1.5 needs 1.8

Your package manager has no way of knowing about things you installed manually.

I don't know what repository you're looking at that you don't see the latest version. Wine-gecko 1.8 is in the openSUSE Wine repository. http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... .1/noarch/

That's fixed it thank you. I didn't have that repository set up. Just the update repositories that SuSe sets up on install.
