Wine On OSX

Post by Michael Reich »

I'm a new user of Wine (Darwine) on Mac OSX and wonder it it's necessary
for the "Wine Log" to open each time I start up a Win app under Wine.
The Log never shows any data and I'd just as soon not have to
continually close it if there's a way to stop it from opening each
time. Haven't found anything obvious in Preferences to control this
behavior.

Thanks in advance for any help.

in the preferences command-comma under the tab headed change the radio-button for the left and the right side to either a file or null (which I assume means no output whatsoever). If that does not work then you might just have to deal with it and hide the application with command-h since the wine applications are running under x11.app anyhow.

If you're referring to the tab labeled "Redirections," I already have
the radio buttons for both "redirct stdout" and "redirect stderr"
selected for "null" but it isn't stopping Wine Log and (sometimes) a
"Wine Processes" window from opening. I don't know if they are products
of Wine or X11...

Um...I'm new at OSX and Wine. Could you be more specific? Try what
with what file log? Thanks.

the option above null is write into a file, so try that option instead of null if null does not work.

Well, that "works" but creates a bigger problem (for me). The desktop
becomes littered with a bunch of log files - I think that was the
default setting to start off and I changed it to nul to avoid all the
litter. Using nul gets rid of the log files on the desktop but still
opens the Wine Log file as well as a "process window" each time I run a
program such as Irfanview. I guess I'll have to get used to either
hiding or closing them; that's preferable to having all those log files
created on the desktop.

Thanks for the suggestions, gat.
