Unity web player
Hi there, While I am Getting Assistance on jump starting Wot...
I might as well ask on another topic... The Unity Web player
I heard from various rumors That I could be able to Run the unity web player and play browser games with it...
However My first attempt went Terribly Wrong...
What I tried first was to download and run a Windows version of mozilla firefox through wine and install the Unity Player through that windows version.
However, The results backfired and any games sites That I attempted to play on with the windows mozilla, Kept Freezing and I was forced to quit it.
My second attempt was to Download a windows Unity Player and install it Via WINE... It seemed to work Smoothly without a hitch.
However When I went to the mmorpg game sites, It says I Need to install the unity webplayer When I actually DID....???
Unity is currently in the development of a linux unity player
BUT... I can't wait that long, my accounts will be deleted... So any ideas?

What version of WINE do you have again? Make sure it's at least 1.3.23.
A virtual desktop wouldn't help here, would it?
Cheers,
Jake

Just do a "wine --version" at terminal to find your WINE version.
Do you have Gecko installed into WINE?
I personally don't know how to do anything with Unity Player, but I see from the website that it is compatible with more browsers than just FireFox. So I thought maybe you'd have better luck with another browser for Windows supported by Unity, in WINE.
Gecko has something to do with WINE and web browsers. So maybe it's needed for this. That's why I'm asking if it is installed into WINE.
Is there a Unity Player that works all by itself without a web browser _and_ Unity Players that are plugins for browsers, or only one or the other? Or is it installed and seen by web browsers and the web browsers just use it?
Cheers,
Jake

The Unity 3D Player seems to suffer from the same bugs as Silverlight. The workaround mentioned in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18345 allows it to install, but trying it on a test page produces the same behavior as described in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27649.Wineexperiments187 wrote:anyway... those were my first 2 option that I tried, and they didn't work.
the Regular "Download unity from website, then Run the Wine program loader with it" seemed to work, However the Game website Did not seem to detect it at all.
So are there any other options?

Ok I just found out my wine version is 1.3.15
so its not 1.3.23 -.-"
Anyway No I have not installed gecko into wine, I actually Didn't know about gecko until you brought it up...
As far as I know... Unity seems to be only a plug in for browsers...Course I only use it to run 3D games like Battlestar galactica online and Dead frontier.
I haven't really thought about digging up more info on whether It runs by itself...
This seems to happen when I try to install Visual libraries... But thats another thread.
Is there Any Remedies to these Bugs? It seems like the Workaround only lets it install and not work....
Course, I could just sit on my butt and wait for unity to have a native version for linux bug free...and Log in occasionally without Playing T.T
"sigh" like I have been doing for the past 6 months. But Im not waiting.

Looks like Unity Web Player is busted in two ways on Wine right now:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27747
Unity web player reports engine not installed, autoupdate fails
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15478
Unity Web Player 2.1.0 doesn't show graphics in browser
Until those two bugs are fixed, any user who asks why they can't
get the unity web player working should be told "it doesn't work in wine
yet, there are these two bugs that need fixing, sorry".

I noticed there wasn't an appdb entry for the unity web player, so I made one:
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=13269
That ought to help new users a bit; now they can clearly see it's rated garbage.
