*Is In Need Of Some Help*
Hai everyone, well once again, I need halp!
A game recently came out, and like always, this game is not executable in a Mac.
Anyway, I'm having major problems trying to run the game...
If anyone out there is willing to help me please reply me!
PS: The game is called Xen Online, http://xen.mayngames.com/main for more info. It's in closed beta ATM, so if you need the beta key, please tell me! Thanks!

I'd be happy to give it a shot, just email the access info to

I have a feeling it might not be too hard to get working unless they put some mega DRM in there... this is what I found for the minimum system requirements... on the download page (http://www.mayngames.com/games/download/xen)
OS: Windows 98, XP, 2000, Vista
CPU: Intel P3 800MHz or AMD CPU of the same capacity
RAM: 512MB
Graphics: OpenGL VGA (above 32MB video Memory)
DirectX: 9.0c
OS: Windows 98, XP, 2000, Vista
CPU: Intel P3 800MHz or AMD CPU of the same capacity
RAM: 512MB
Graphics: OpenGL VGA (above 32MB video Memory)
DirectX: 9.0c
The game lets you choose between DirectX or OpenGL, but there's some error when I try to use DirectX(though windows users were having the same problems so it's not wine). So I switched it to OpenGL and the "3D" images or effects look all altered... Is it because I need to update OpenGL? If you know how to do it, please tell me!doh123 wrote:I have a feeling it might not be too hard to get working unless they put some mega DRM in there... this is what I found for the minimum system requirements... on the download page (http://www.mayngames.com/games/download/xen)

Okay. No offense but I find people like you incredibly annoying. You come on to a forum without doing any self-help (i.e. type you problem into google) and you scream for someone to spoon feed you info? Then when people ask you to elaborate - more whining.Rubaonti wrote:The game lets you choose between DirectX or OpenGL, but there's some error when I try to use DirectX(though windows users were having the same problems so it's not wine). Your problem is that you need to get a fucken PC bro. You will continue to have problems with games and other open-source apps because no one uses f-ing macs! Get a pc, load windows 7, and all your problems will be solved. Then you can play the Sims or whatever. But Wine tends to be unstable and if your not willing troubleshoot on your own...save yourself hours of grief. Dump your mactard.

The fact that "no one uses Macs" (which is totally untrue, but is widely

Seriously I'm new to this thing so I know, honestly, nothing... I just want my game to work, but I don't know why it's not working properly... What whining? It's just pixels, lol.
I found you quite pathetic to get mad at these sorts of things, I don't know much about this so SORRY if I didn't give enough info.
what are your system specs and OS version?Rubaonti wrote: The game lets you choose between DirectX or OpenGL, but there's some error when I try to use DirectX(though windows users were having the same problems so it's not wine). What version of Wine, or are you using a 3rd party app? Are you using the latest build of XQuartz with it, or Apple's X11?
"altered" doesn't help one bit in description... any terminal output to go along with it?
Like I said I don't know much but I think it's the following:doh123 wrote:what are your system specs and OS version?Rubaonti wrote: The game lets you choose between DirectX or OpenGL, but there's some error when I try to use DirectX(though windows users were having the same problems so it's not wine). I'm using Wine Version 1.2.2(1.2.2)
And Apple's X11
My mac's version is 10.6.4
Hope that helps in anything XD.
Oh and like they don't go "3D" they just mix up together, instead of one thing on top of the other.(Hope you get it, if not, I can post a screenshot

Thanks!
XQuartz is MUCH better than Apple's version of X11, you should really go with it.Rubaonti wrote: Like I said I don't know much but I think it's the following:

Wine 1.2.2 is rather old.. why not try 1.3.22?
OSX 10.6.4 is missing some updates to graphics drivers that helps a lot, you should really run Software Update and get everything up through 10.6.7 ... and even 10.6.8 is in testing and out soon.
Thanks for the info!!!doh123 wrote:XQuartz is MUCH better than Apple's version of X11, you should really go with it.Rubaonti wrote: Like I said I don't know much but I think it's the following:

Do you know where I could get that new version of Wine? Thing is, I don't really understand how to download it :S.

Assuming you used macports to install wine (which is probably likely),
What you'll want to do to get the latest version of wine is type these commands into terminal...
If you're using fink, personally don't know how to use that, but I'd imagine this would do the trick:
Hope that helps. The appdb seems to indicate that the game runs fine in wine: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=22922
If it works for you, consider adding your results =).
Good luck.

And I think I didn't use mac ports :S.
I'll assume you didn't compile Wine at all... your probably using WineBottler's Wine.app which is a 3rd party program and not supported here.
Waiting for a DirectX fix probably will not fix anything since non-Windows OSes cannot use DirectX, so Wine still uses OpenGL even for Direct3D.
If you don't want to compile source code to install and use Wine command line (which macports and such will do for you), you can try any other 3rd party program you want, but you won't be able to get support for them here.
