Browse/Open File Dialogue Slow
Hi,
recently wine applications seem to be very slow when the Open File Dialogue is listing a directory containing lots of files. For example a directory with 450 files in just took 15 seconds to open. Or is that normal?
Version 1.1.35
Cheers, Jamie

Yeah, it's "normal". Wine has huge overhead when reading directories with lots of files. Also some optimization(s) won't hurt either.jamiekitson wrote:For example a directory with 450 files in just took 15 seconds to open. Or is that normal?
Something happened with 1.1.35
I have used Wine for a year running Dreamweaver and PhotoShop. No, problems until just before Christmas. Then Wine became unusable because opening/ browsing directories is very slow. Opening a file after the 30 seconds wait is fast and normal. The CPUs are running at almost 100% when "hanging", and the winedevice.exe process has status pipe_wait.
I remember that after upgrading to 1.1.35 it asked to download some drivers. Wine has never done this before. I regret that I did not note details on this.
Have tried to uninstall and reinstall several times, but the problem is still there. Could anybody help?

Where did that comma come from...
The last post should start with: "I have used Wine for a year running Dreamweaver and PhotoShop. No problems until just before Christmas."

This is a distribution specific issue and not really related to wine.I remember that after upgrading to 1.1.35 it asked to download some drivers. Wine has never done this before. I regret that I did not note details on this.

Works fine now
Wine works fine now. Got 1.0.1 from the standard Ubunty repository. I had specified the wine.budgetdedicated.com repository which gave the 1.1.35 revision. This is not recommended by Ubuntu, I read today. Thanks for your comment. And, thanks for the Wine program.
Re: Works fine now
The only disrecommendation there is that it doesn't fall under Ubuntu support but instead under forum support over here. 1.1.35 generally runs a LOT more than the over-a-year-old 1.0.1. If you encountered software that does work in the old version but not the latest you have found a regression that will have to be reported and fixed in Wine.Birger wrote:Wine works fine now.
