no Runes of Magic with Wine 1.1.34

Post by Kodama »

Hello,

I just upgraded to Wine 1.1.34 and Runes of Magic doesn't start anymore. (it ran great with 1.1.33).

With 1.1.34 the update window comes up but when I hit "start game" an error message appears saying;

"Report Error
a critical error occured, the game is closing. Please use the [send] button to send an error report to Runewaker. This error report wil be anonymous..." (translated from german)

So I'm building 1.1.33 vom the ABS of Arch Linux now so I can downgrade and skip this version.

Do any of you guys have an idea what the problem might be?
Thanks
Andreas

I can confirm the very same thing : 1.1.33 worked fine, but 1.1.34 crashes on game startup. Downgrading solves the problem.

In the Runes of Magic directory, the game created a crash report, consisting, among other things, in an XML file that gives more details :

ExceptionRecord ModuleName="D:\RunesOfMagic\Client.exe" ExceptionCode="0xc0000005" ExceptionDescription="EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" ExceptionAddress="0x7e1e14de"

By reading it, i guess it happened in :
/usr/local/bin/../lib/wine/riched20.dll.so

There is also a dump file.

As far as I can see in the dump file generated by ROM, it seems the exception affects d3d9.dll.

Overwriting with native dll has no effect

Waiting for a fix...

I would start by upgrading wine to a supported version (1.3.18 or
above preferably). Your version was released in December of 2009.

Yea, just do an upgrade and it should work. I was having a problem with it when I was using my email marketing software. I just looked to see if there was an upgrade and it worked just fine.

Runes of Magic will not work with WINE 1.1.17 and lower.
