Steam just keeps crashing, version after version...

So, steam doesn't seem to be working very well, (at least on my computer) with about the 10 latest wine versions. I'm running:

Kubuntu 7.10 on an old,

nvidia nforce2
amd athlon 2400+
nvidia fx5900xt with proper working drivers (glxgears gives me +5000fps)
512mb ram.

edit: wine version 0.9.59 (had my hopes up when the change log said "fixed steam crash on startup", but nogo )

Did you make a change that in the good version it tries to load this dll and on the bad one not.

Maybe you should look around what happens at that stage.

Works fine here. Have you tried following HOWTO and reinstalling steam? Starting from removing ~/.wine directory?

IMO it's a problem of KDE/Kubuntu

I've seen this problem only on Kubuntu systems...on Xubuntu and Ubuntu itself it works fine...

Not really. I'm using KDE and Steam worked fine for a long long time. With minor regressions along the way.
