installed app not in app menu; emule ports questions

Post by akalsha »

Hello,
I'm brand spanking new with Linux and all of this. I've just recently installed Ubuntu, and I installed Wine.
I've just now attempted to install the latest version of emule into Wine, and it was easier than I expected. One thing though-emule didn't get added to the applications/wine/programs menu. How does one add programs to that menu? I had to browse the "c" drive and click on emule's exe file to open it.

I have a question specifically about emule. Maybe this isn't the best place to ask it, but I'm not sure where else to ask.
Upon installation, it asks you to test specific ports and my system failed the tcp test. I had no problem with failing this test when I was using Windows; but I'm sure that's just because Windows is much less secure than Linux. :)
But I have no idea how to fix this. Do I need to open up those ports in settings somewhere?
Thanks for any help.

What Wine version? (in the terminal run 'wine --version')
For specific emule discussions see http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1065

I think you can safely ignore those test errors. You might be behind a firewall or your system configured to block all incoming connections.

OK, I'll give it a try. Do you think upgrading will fix the menu problem/question? Thank you.

I can't seem to figure out how to upgrade it. I have to completely uninstall my current version, and then re-install? So I'll have to reinstall any programs I had installed under it?
I'm trying to follow the instructions on this page:
http://winehq.org/site/download-deb

I put in both commands in the terminal, but it didn't seem to make it do anything. Afterwards, I went into the synaptic package manager, reloaded it and searched for Wine and only found the older version that I have installed, so I guess it really didn't do anything. What should I do?

I don't think, I know because I've fixed them more then 1/2 year ago.

Wait or compile Wine yourself. It seems budgetdedicated.com experiencing some network problems.

I see, thanks.
I have no idea how to "compile" anything. I can't see that there's any other way to get the files other than following the instructions on the above page, which still isn't working as of today.
Is there somewhere else to get the files?
Guess maybe I'll just wait for that site to work again........
Thank you.
