[Fixed] [Wine 1.1.0] C&C3 Kane will not start

Post by wastedfluid »

*update*

I got the game to install, now the problem is getting it to run. Please scroll down.

Many thanks..

Hello guys,

When I try to install Command & Conquer Kane's edition, I get this error:

"The wizard was interrupted before C&C Kane's edition could be completely installed"

I googled

"The wizard was interrupted before could be completely installed"

And got a Microsoft tutorial about adding a registry key that was a binary value... it was a permissions issue, but I don't know what Registry Key to add.

I'm running Ubuntu 64-bit, with Wine 0.9.60... (I can't upgrade to 1.0 because it won't run Counter Strike. I did try upgrading to 1.0 briefly to test the install, of Kane's Edition and it still didn't work.)

I have googled this quite a few times and I'm clueless. If anyone could help it'd be greatly appreciated, or there goes $50 bucks. Thanks!!

According to http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/gamedb.php?letter=C that game uses SecuROM 7.xx copy protection, which doesn't work in Wine.

Thanks for your reply.

Shows that many people are getting Kane's edition to work via WINE.

All versions of Command and Conquer 3 use SecuROM... and the game has received plenty of Gold ratings.. so I'm assuming it can be done?

Am I missing something?

Changing a key in the registry worked, picked it up after playing with that guide for awhile.

Anyway, I got the game to install.

I attempted to run it, and it crashed on the first run. Since I was running wine 0.9.60(so Counter Strike would work), I decided to give it a go to wine 1.1.0.

Success... Kind of.

It stalls on the Flash screen where it says loading. CPU goes up to 99% in one core, and stays there.

I read the app db page some more - and decided to disable AUDIO, still no go. Wouldn't start. Then I recalled reading that Compiz sometimes messes with games - so I disabled Compiz.

Still no go.

Did you use a crack?

Yes, I followed the guide and looked up a "No DVD" ?? crack.

There were two of them, and they contained a .dat file that was in the "RetailEXE" folder.

One was like 23mb, one was 4mb. I didn't know which to use. They both do the same thing, though. I renamed the original. dat file to .dat.old, and I swapped out the 3.4mb one, and the 23.9mb one - they were located in this folder:

/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/Command & Conquer 3/RetailExe/1.0

Both produce the same result. One core on my processor goes to 99%, and it just sits there.

16604 wasted 20 0 5332 2688 628 S 44 0.1 0:38.80 wineserver
But they both have semi-high CPU percentages.

Apply patches 1.2 - 1.9, and the no-cd patch appeared to work.

Thanks for your help.

Hi there.

Can you play C&C3 now?

It worked installing here but I can't run it. It shows the splash screen and then it disappears.

I've also applied the 1.9 patch.

- Running from the terminal doesn't output any errors
- Already copied the d3d9.dll to windows/system32
- Already disabled all sound modules
- Applied CNC3_patch109_english.exe
- I'm Running wine 1.1.23, in the Appdb the last comment states that it works perfectly in this version.

So I want to make this work but haven't got any other clues of what to try next.

My next option is to update wine to the latest dev package.

Any help?

Please share if you made this work.
