Display of Photomatix GUI Has No Buttons, Checkmarks

Post by Garibaldi »

I would like to use Photomatix Pro 3.1.3 on my WINE install. I was able to successfully install it after installing corefonts and .NET 2.0 using winetricks. The program opens fine but none of the buttons, checkmarks, or other window dressings appear:
Image

I have several other applications installed in WINE and none of them exhibit this strange behavior. Moreover, I installed Photomatix 3.0.3 and it also looks like this, but Photomatix 2.5.4 looks normal.

I would be fine with this slightly strange-looking window, but when I try to load a RAW file, the program crashes with a StackOverflowException. I see from the Photomatix 3.0.3 test results on the AppDB that the user was able to actually tonemap an image. Is this StackOverflowException related to a limited amount of memory allocated to wine or something like that which I could tweak? Is it related to this strange window dressing? This strange window dressing behavior seems to be something specific to my wine install, because the 3.0.3 tester's window looks fine.

Here's the console output from running the program:

Does native gdiplus help?

Thanks, I guess I must have set the override for the wrong executable in winecfg! Anyway, I just overrode it from the command:

Thanks, I guess I must have set the override for the wrong executable in winecfg! Anyway, I just overrode it from the command:

Hmm. Where did you get your native gdiplus from? The program itself,
or winetricks? Try 'winetricks gdiplus fontfix'.

Is this the program?

I had installed gdiplus from winetricks but I see now that there was another one in my system32 directory. I moved that one leaving just the gdiplus from winetricks, and ran:

Code: Select all

$ winetricks gdiplus
err:ole:create_server class {a1f4e726-8cf1-11d1-bf92-0060081ed811} not registered

Executing wine regedit /homexxxx/.wine/drive_c/winetrickstmp/override-dll.reg
Install of gdiplus done
fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub
winetricks done.
It almost seems like it has trouble registering the dll. Anyway I then ran Photomatix overriding gdiplus again and it still failed with the AccessViolationException.

Yes, this is the link to the program: http://www.hdrsoft.com/download/win.html I am using the trial

Works fine for me in git, in a clean ~/.wine with only 'winetricks
dotnet20' used before installation.

I moved my ~/.wine directory to ~/.wineold and then ran:

Code: Select all

winetricks dotnet20
wine PhotomatixPro.exe
It failed so I installed gdiplus with winetricks. Using WINEDLLOVERRIDES="gdiplus=n" causes the Access Violation and using WINEDLLOVERRIDES="gdiplus=b" causes the StackOverflow. Is there something I'm not doing to reset my wine environment? Do I have to do more than just remove my ~/.wine directory? Also, can I still access the programs I have already worked to set up in that wine instance?

I'm guessing git is a svn or nightly-build type of thing - I am just running the latest wine 1.1.23 - is this sufficient?

Thanks a lot!

Yes, you are right, git is an "svn or nightly-build type of thing"y. Check http://wiki.winehq.org/GitWine

Build it from scratch and let it roll!

Maybe you'll be able to execute them, it depends, but probably you will if you install the git instead of just keeping it in a dark dusty old folder.

Good Luck,

I installed wine git and was able to successfully run the program, even create tonemapped HDR image. However, the fonts on several of the screens are messed up:
Image
Click on File or any of the other menus or bringing up an "open" dialog are all english. I installed corefonts but that didn't seem to help. Any ideas?

Thanks

Austin, did you notice the same font problems when you installed Photomatix? If so, how did you resolve them?

Thanks

No, they looked fine for me. Try without corefonts?

I just did a fresh .wine install exactly as you did - winetricks dotnet20 and then right away installing Photomatix. It installs and runs as before, but again has those strange unreadable fonts.

I'm guessing time to file a bug report in buzilla.

I was able to get Photomatix 3.2 (new version) working with Wine 1.1.25 using the following:

Code: Select all

$ wget www.kegel.com/wine/winetricks
$ chmod +x winetricks
$ ./winetricks corefonts dotnet20
$ wine PhotomatixPro32Setup.exe
I posted my results on the appdb
