Naturally speaking + Wine better, the audio not so good

NaturallySpeaking under wine is working remarkably well considering the amount
of complexity present in both systems.. When I use it, it's just smoother and
feels better than NaturallySpeaking under Windows. My undying gratitude is
extended to all of those that helped.

Here's what doesn't work so well. Audio. Specifically, vxi-b200 USB microphone
In order to use it, I need to turn off pulse audio. And, I need to use it
through the OSS usb mixer interface. Again, since it works in all, that's
probably not so bad.

Now, there is one failure that remains and it's pretty important. When I
dictate, most of the time I do not get any output from NaturallySpeaking for
least one to two minutes. A small fraction of the time I get the text right
away. Usually my utterances are recognized but sometimes, they get
forgotten/lost as if the audio went away in midsentence.

any ideas as to why I'm seeing this behavior?

Pulseaudio is not supported under Wine and probably will not be. ALSA
or OSS are older and more mature.

from my perspective, all three systems (pulse, alsa, oss) have their significant
shortcoming especially when dealing with usb audio. in anycase, any ideas on
what is behind the 2 min delay between speaking and recognizing? in windows,
delays like that combined with mediocre recognition results are usually an audio
problem. in this case, I get long delays with good recognition results.

Interesting. This has not been, to my knowledge, reported before.
Roseanne Dimensio works with DNS quite a bit and may be able to provide
pointers about this problem. BTW, how long does DNS 'last' before it
stops working for you?

I'm seeing the delays start within the first few minutes of use. sometimes I
can make the long delay problem go away briefly by turning the mic on and off.

unrelated Q. I want to make natlink work so I can use python for a macro
environment. can I set it up so that natlink links to the DNS com interface but
uses/runs Linux python?

Not me. Susan Cragin is the DNS guru.

(1) Slowdowns precede crash.
(2) xruns? does a little red exclamation point show up on the taskbar?
(3) ??

solutions in order:
(1) bug fixed. upgrade to latest wine release
(2) talk slower.
(3) ??? (and this is probably the correct answer.)

In attempting to install Dragon Naturally Speaking 7.0, many of us have gotten the message "DNS requires...at least 128MB RAM. Your system has -673MB RAM." The setup program sees negative RAM on systems with over 2G.

There's a patch posted for for this Bug 15708, LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE flag. It appears to also apply to some Adobe products.

Since the patch is already out there, is it possible to release the next iteration compiled WITH the patch? I tried compiling my own WINE using the patch, but it caused problems and after installing all the required dependencies, the WINE I compiled didn't work at all.

I don't see Bug 15708 in the list of Bugs Scheduled to be Fixed before WINE 2.0 is released. There appears to be a simple patch that fixes it. Would it be possible to incorporate that patch into the next Wine_1.1.26?

What adobe products does it affect? Any demo/free downloads?
