Wine on Windows 7... Anyone actually tried?

Post by RogueThunder »

Oi.

So. Now we have a version of windows that actually has legit uses for wine.

Windows 7 can't run horrifyingly outdated 16bit programs(Such as Exile Escape from the Pit) period. Atleast so Ive herd--and tried and seen to seem to be true. Not to mention a multitude of programs that SHOULD run--but just dont like it(Worms Armageddon, for one... though dunno if it works on wine)

Also. I've herd NWN runs fine under it... and well. W7 and NWN are... Insert your favorite set of people that shoudlnt be left in a room together.

So... Anyone tried it? Or under vista. Should function much the same...

... I rather want my oldass rpgs back xD

A few attempts here:

I gotta say, the news isn't good: it doesn't even compile yet!

(And if it did compile under Cygwin, win16 is presently disabled under Cygwin.)

If you think you can beat Cygwin or Interix into successfully
*compiling* Wine, that'd be a great start :-D

WineD3D wrapper for Windows. Makes your DirectX act as OpenGL. I use it on my VirtualBox to run gameguarded games.

Interix has the advantage of being include with all the non-crippled
(Ultimate, as well as the slightly crippled Enterprise) Vista (and
probably Windows 7 versions)...
