My boyfriend and I have been really frustrated trying to get WoW to work on Jaunty with Wine,
We think perhaps one of the biggest problems we're having is downloading the latest patches.
Normally when there are new patches they automatically update themselves, but when they go to the loading screen, it freezes and doesn't work.
So then we tried getting the patches from a mirror, (most of which were german and made me laugh) but I think he didn't understand what order to install the patches in.
Does it matter if the patches are mixed up or do they have to be in a specific order, from oldest to latest for it to be successful?

What happens if you run 'wine iexplore'? The WoW patches have worked fine withMy boyfriend and I have been really frustrated trying to get WoW to work on

Honestly, if you are having patch trouble the easiest way around that us
usually to delete your WoW files, log on to your account managment at
the WoW website and it will show the latest version of the game you have
purchased with a 'download' option. If you download from there you
should get the regular game files and all patches up to the current one
all at once and all in order. Depending on your internet it may take
awhile but possibly still be faster then messing with mirrors and patch
orders.

Re: World of Warcraft and Wine.
I had the exact same problem, using Ubuntu 8.10/9.04 64-bit and up-to-date wine from repo. All problems disappeared after i re-installed in a clean .wine directory. Actually, moving the drive_c to a clean wine directory might be sufficient. Also make sure you start the .exe using padsp, like this:SyntheticToast wrote:My boyfriend and I have been really frustrated trying to get WoW to work on Jaunty with Wine,

cd /home/.clean.wine/drive_c/Games/WoW/
padsp wine Launcher.exe
That would load the launcher, which will update itself and then WoW also. Try to see if it works for you too!
