Unable to install anything

Hi,
Using both wine 1.1.19 and 1.1.20 I am unable to install anything using installshield.
The installer always throws a error saying
'Error Number: 0x80040706
Descrition: Object reference not set'

And wine throws
err:ole:TLB_ReadTypeLib Loading of typelib L"C:\\Program Files\\Common Files\\InstallShield\\Professional\\RunTime\\IsProBE.tlb" failed with error 2
fixme:storage:StgCreateDocfile Storage share mode not implemented.

Anyone have any ideas?

This can be ignored or you can run the input process for .tlb files

fixme:storage:StgCreateDocfile Storage share mode not implemented.

This might be what is causing the problem. However, I will try to
install a program that uses InstallShield and see what happens. This
will take a day or so.

I too have the same problem. It only started recently. I was installing Civilization 4 and the accompanying expansion packs. After the first time I've run Installshield since the last wine update, it doesn't work anymore. It won't let me install any of the expansion packs, or anything else that uses Installshield. Identical terminal output to James McKenzie's.

I'm specifically trying to install the Warlords expansion for Civ4, and I didn't realize it was systemic until I tried to install Lords of the Realm 3 as well (both are supposedly platinum in the AppDB).

I was having troubles with installshield I found if you set it in win98 mode and download dcom98 using winetricks it should get it running.

Well it seems that the makers of wine made a mistake in the release. Seems that every version prior to the current, the installation works without winetricks... >>

I notice how *fresh* this topic is, and I am having the same error when it comes to this.

So.. should I go the winetricks route and be unable to report bugs since thats what it says, seems like a one-way road...?

or should I install an earlier version of wine? I can't install anything with WINE anymore (anything being eq[disc], eq2[downloaded .exe], tversity, ventrilo so far)

those are the only fixes i see that seem viable, am i right?

The Installshield bug was reported fixed in 1.1.24. If you're using an older version, upgrade.
