WoW not working - crash at start after ug to fc11

Post by rednoise »

I've tried various things to make it work, but it just doesn't seem to.
Now, I did install from LiveCD, will install full fc11 tomorrow and try again,
but currently this is what happens (have nvidia driver latest), would love
to see if anyone else has had this and found the fix:

World of Warcraft]$ wine --version
wine-1.1.18

World of Warcraft]$ wine "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe"
err:seh:raise_exception Unhandled exception code c0000005 flags 0 addr 0x60873a46
^C^C^C^C^C^C^C
^Z
[1]+ Stopped wine "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe"

(can't even Ctrl+c out of it)

World of Warcraft]$ ps|grep WoW
2794 pts/1 00:00:05 WoW.exe
World of Warcraft]$ kill 2794
World of Warcraft]$ fg
wine "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe"
Terminated

On my install the second 'W' in 'Wow.exe" is not capitalized. It might
be worth checking your files or just trying it with the second 'w' lower
case and see if it changes anything. It certainly wouldn't be the first
time one of us got tripped up by a typo. :)

Other than that, I never used 1.1.18 (went from .15 to .20) so I'm not
sure if it had any specific WoW problems, mine is very stable in Wine
1.1.20, have you tried that version or newer?

It might also be worth trying to start it as \Launcher.exe instead of
\Wow.exe You should be able to do either but in the past one worked
better than the other for some people. ****If you ever set up a desktop
shortcut that starts the game with the Launcher: On patch days you can
grab and apply the patch fine as normal but when it says it's all done
and ready and the Launcher shows up again, close that Launcher window
down and restart your game as you normally do. If you just hit 'play' on
the Launcher after a patch it usually starts the game without and
special tags you might be using (-opengl, etc.) and you end up having to
restart anyway.

re: WoW fc11 & wine

tried updating wine
tried reinstalling game with wine - html rendering made it so I couldn't accept the license, installed the mozilla control in wine, still no go, tried my old install to no avail. Looking like I have to choose between running linux or playing WoW. WoW will win.

That crash is in your video drivers. Try changing ORM to backbuffer.

I'm having the same problem in both wine and Crossover Games.

It is only in d3d that this occurs. You can still run wine in -opengl, BUT in my case the Ctrl buttons no longer work in any wine program. For that I have filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=505936

The d3d break I think may be more of a wine problem though. I'm surprised we aren't seeing this in other distributions though. Fedora does ship with xorg-1.6. I wonder if something there might be breaking d3d?
