sound issues
sound issues
Edit: so per Jorl17 I have deleted "POL" I have yet to install the sims but I still get no sound when clicking the "test" button for sound I get nothing
I have gotten the sims 3 to run and stay open, but Im having issues with audio. This is the first and only game that I have installed so I have no way of telling if this is a general issue or a specific one with this game. But im pretty sure that its an over all wine problem. My knowledge with linux is low so please instruct accordingly.
To the problem:
I have eDimensional AudioFX Pro 5.1 Force Feedback USB Gaming Headset ( awful headset) that uses Alsa mixer. Listed in ubuntu as c-media usb headset. It works as should in ubuntu but when I launch the sims 3 it has absolutely no sound. Ill be monitoring this and I will be happy to post any info that is required to help solve this problem.
Some solutions I have attempted:
-I attempted to killall pulseaudio but it seems to just relaunch the min I attempted to start the game
-I attempted to use padsp ( no idea what it does tbh) but was instructed to put that before running wine in terminal. The problem being that I use playonlinux so I dont know how to access the config file it specifically makes for the game.
I appreciate your time in reading this and helping me out
Thanks,
Anthony

Hey.
First things first, so let's start kicking. What wine version do you have? I recommend 1.1.22 (not 23, since that has a nasty d3d bug)
Open up a terminal (applications->acessories->terminal)
type in winecfg and click the sounds tab.
If it complains that there is no driver, select ALSA. If ALSA isn't selected at all, deselect anything else and select it.
Now close winecfg and open it again.
Click Test Sound and see if you hear a short test sound. If it works, good.
Now open up your favourite media player and put some music on. Once again, press the test sound button to see if both sounds can be heard simultaneously.
could you post the Sims 3 output? Check for error messages (starting with err).
That should help us get started. I think your problem is probably related to not having choosen a driver.
I have a friend which doesn't get zit of computers and has the same system as you do --- and wine works just fine there.
Good luck.

EDIT: Hold on, you said you use PlayOnLinux? Don't get mad. Remove that garbage and install wine from scratch. Get Sims 3 rolling in it and, then post questions here. Otherwise just turn around and go ask in their forums.

I installed wine via "apt-get install", and acquired version 1.01 so maybe I should update that?
Also I got no sound from the config.
I just read your edit:
lol ok ill remove and get back to just wine, but I had a whole lot more host of problems, ill jst make a new post once I get that, thanks again for your help

Yeah, upgrade it. Go into http://wine.budgetdedicated.com/archive/index.html and select the appropriate 1.1.22 paackage for your OS.
Remember that PlayOnLinux doubts are to be answered by the PlayOnLinux guys. You'd be better off using 'raw' Wine. I've done it on many PCs and I've gotten Sims 3 to work just fine there.
Also, make sure that Pulseaudio _IS_ running when you test sound.
I don't know how PlayOnLinux works. Does it come with a bundled Wine or does it use an available? If it comes with its own you might as well forget everything I just said and bang your head against the keyboard (cross fingers for raw wine)

Have it be killed!formar wrote:it uses your current wine (I assume this because wine wont uninstall stating another program is using it) The thing is if wines audio wont work now it still wont work whether or not in have the playonlinux. Am I right?
Code: Select all
wineserver -k
I don't know why you're bashing PlayOnLinux:
actually not knowing anything about it:jorl17 wrote:EDIT: Hold on, you said you use PlayOnLinux? Don't get mad. Remove that garbage

You can use bundled Wine or an available. It's your choice.jorl17 wrote:Does it come with a bundled Wine or does it use an available?
