wine error causing reboot
I recently installed wine onto my system, and have been trying to use it, but it causes the computer to reboot. The terminal tells me: "Could not load Mozilla. HTML rendering will be disabled." Immediately after that the login screen flashes up, effectively rebooting the session I was in. I'm afraid I don't know too much specifics about my system right now, as I am on a Windows partition (I want to use Wine so I can stop using Windows). If anyone needs more information I will be happy to add it.

So are you just getting sent back to the login screen after a second or
two of a blank screen or is your system actually reseting and going
through the boot sequence exactly the same as when you power on (i.e.
POST -> grub -> boot splash)?
They are two very different senarios, 1) describes a system crash, where
as 2) describes a X server crashing and restarting.
If you could confirm which it is, it'll make it easier for someone to
suggest what to try next.

There are two conflicting bits of information here:I recently installed wine onto my system, and have been trying to use it,
but it causes the computer to reboot. The terminal tells me that it didn't
load "MOZILLA HTM" correctly, and then flashes something quickly about
rendering being unable to do something, it doesn't give me time to read
it before it sends me back to the login screen. I'm afraid I don't know
too much specifics about my system right now, as I am on a Windows
partition (I want to use Wine so I can stop using Windows). If anyone
needs more information I will be happy to add it.

Then you most likely have a bad graphics driver.I recently installed wine onto my system, and have been trying to use it, but it causes the computer to reboot.

wine crashes on startup kicks me to reboot
socphoenix,
Did you ever resolve this issue? i have just recently installed wine 1.1.20 on
Ubuntu 9.04 and as soon as i start wine it boots me to the login screen.
I have tried two seperate programs on Wine
warcraft 3 ~ it will start the loading screen and then boot me to login screen
Itunes ~ starts installing after about 5 seconds it boots me to login screen.
this is my video driver,
filename: /lib/modules/2.6.28-11-generic/kernel/drivers/acpi/video.ko

Let me know if anyone has any ideas. how do i reinstall my graphics drivers?
im somewhat of a linux noob, but plan on sticking with linux if i can figure out wine.

Re: wine crashes on startup kicks me to reboot
Look in /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /home/(user)/.xsession-errors for any relevant errors and warnings about drivers, etc. It looks to be a video driver / X / Glx interaction problem somewhere not wine exactly. Turn off Compiz and switch to Metacity (no effects) and see if it still happens. What's the output of 'lsmod' ?Let me know if anyone has any ideas. how do i reinstall my graphics drivers?

i think im going to go with an nvidia, i have no choice but to look for a pci express 16 or 1. I plan on using two monitors with the dual video cards, i haven't done this before and this is going to sound noob, but when i do get the new video, and install it, do i just plug both monitors up to the two different video cards and turn my computer on?
