Word 2007 slow on jaunty

Post by pollanza »

Hello I've a problem with word 2007 in wine and jaunty. I've been using it in intrepid since 1.1.13 version that makes it work ok! Now It's near to perfection in intrepid with this last version (1.1.19) in my eeepc, but in my desktop (more powerfull than the eee obviously!) with jaunty it is really really slow (unusable) when you edit/write formulas and insert shapes. Is there something to do to make word 2007 usable in jaunty like it was in intrepid?
Thanks a lot!!

I'm the only one having this problem or there is a regression with jaunty and word 2007? Thanks

You use 1.1.19 on both PCs, right? And on one it's slower? That's pretty unusual... What are the main differences between your two computers (like video card, 32 bit / 64 bit architecture)?

Now I've 1.1.20 in both, in the eee it's fast as usual, and in the desktop there isn't any improvement, it's too slow on creating/editing the formulas.
The eeepc is a celeron 900mhz and with word 2007 in wine i can underclock it also to 450mhz that is fine! The card is an intel gma 915.
The desktop is an amd xp 2600+ with an ati 9500pro.
On the eee I'm on intrepid, on the desktop on Jaunty.
Both are 32 bit architecture!

It's really slow also with the latest version, the 1.1.21... Is there something I can do to try to repair this?

what version is your catalyst drivers version on the desktop?
Does 2D and 3D acceleration work?

Does any other programs have the same problem on the desktop (Like games or even things like firefox?)

Any output in the terminal when you run it?

Do you have any other apps installed in Wine on your desktop that you don't have on your eeepc? If yes, try installing Office to a separate wineprefix on that machine. It's possible that settings for some other app in the same wineprefix are causing problems with Office apps.

Yes the 2D and 3D acceleration work!
Now I've also emule and utorrent installed in wine! But for these isn't necessary any special config of wine in the dll configuration!

Also the 1.1.22 is too slow...
Could it be that installing from the .deb version the newer one wine version that make it possible to install office 2007 (the version after that have a regression), the 1.1.16 version, which is an intrepid version, in jaunty broke that?
After installing office 2007 I upgraded to the newer jaunty version, but maybe installing the intrepid version on jaunty messed the things!
But there isn't a 1.1.16 version for jaunty, so if anyone want to install office 2007 must use an intrepid version of wine in jaunty and upgrade after the office installation!

It would be better to build 1.1.16 yourself in jaunty. As you noted, using a binary for the wrong version can cause problems.

I've made a clean install of wine 1.1.24 that can install correctly office 2007. After the installation the equation are slow as usual on my jaunty machine!
In the intrepid install I'm still at version 1.1.20, and it works flawlessly in my eeepc.
When I edit equation in the jaunty desktop, the cpu is at 93-95% which is really high!
