cannot access winecfg/Drive with .wine made with 1.1.18

Post by mr jingle »

I'm using wine 1.1.18 on Ubuntu Intrepid 32 bit and cannot access the "Drive" folder in
winecfg while using ".wine" folder created with this release.
while creating it, the terminal shows the error:

err:process:__wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out

and when accessing the Drive Tab it says:

err:winecfg:open_mountmgr failed to open mount manager err 2

after i close winecfg the processes "wineserver" and "services.exe" remain active.

If I try to use an older folder , converted to 1.1.18 but created with wine 1.1.17 , it works without any of these problems.

I've tried removing every trace of pulseaudio from my computer, using pasuspender, aoss, etc and nothing seems to change.

Did you run wine as root, or execute su or sudo?

none of them. I run it as non-privileged user.

Reinstall video drivers. Make sure you completely removed pulseaudio.

Done both of them, but no dice.

And regarding pulseaudio, I tested removing everything that was related in some way to it.

Actually, I copied the system.reg and user.reg from the working wineprefix to a newly created and, voilà, it starts working. Even while pulseaudio is installed.
I've not yet identified exactly what makes it to work, unfortunately. Is there any privacy consideration i should consider before i upload these files on pastebin?

And before doing any test, I've double checked with "ps aux" if any wine processes or subprocesses were running. And if I remove the .wine folder, start winecfg, wait until it appears (again, showing the error __wine_kernel_init boot event wait timed out while creating the .wine folder), then close it, i get from ps aux:

Code: Select all

8143 0.0 0.0 3728 908 ? Ss 18:54 0:00 /usr/bin/../lib/../bin/wineserver
8145 0.1 0.4 2652432 7416 ? Ss 18:54 0:00 C:\windows\system32\wineboot.exe --init
8146 0.0 0.1 2642500 2504 ? Sl 18:54 0:00 C:\windows\system32\services.exe
8175 0.1 0.3 2648212 5848 ? Ss 18:54 0:00 C:\windows\system32\explorer.exe /desktop
And I have to kill them.

(I've taken out my username for privacy reasons)

Ok, Big update.

If I don't kill the aforementioned processes and wait for something like 10 minutes, the console spouts the following:

Looks like you have no internet connection, thus wine-gecko is not being
updated.

uh?

*check forum.winehq.org*

Uhmm, well, I think this machine is connected to the internet :P

Anyway, the output of "apt-cache showpkg wine-gecko" is the following:

And the updater shows nothing regarding wine nor wine-gecko.
