Symantec Ghost Explorer 11

Post by broomx »

Hi guys

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the issues I'm having with
ghost explorer 11? I need this to run on my Fedora 10 box. I have faith that wine can do it!

Anyway, I have wine on the default settings and run :

# wine Ghostexp.exe

The ghost explorer window opens great but I do have the following in the shell

I'm able to open ghost images made with ghost32.exe version 11 and to
browse the files. It all looks promising but I do get the following in my terminal.[/b]

The annoying thing is that it does work like 5% of the time as long as the ghost image is small. This failure above was on a 10Gb image of a RHEL5 machine. I was trying to extract a directory with about 760Mb in it.

Any help would be great. Having this working fully would save me a lot of time at work.

Thanks[/b]

That's pretty low level stuff...haven't touched it in a while, but may
need stuff not implemented in Wine. Does it use drivers at all?
Anyway, I have wine on the default settings and run :

# wine Ghostexp.exe
Why are you running as root?

Well, to be honest, I know it's bad practice but I do everything as root. Wrist slap etc.

I know it's fairly low level but I'm a total noob when it comes to wine.

Don't. Especially with Wine. You're giving windows applications total
access to your system. Viruses, etc. can then wreck havoc.

A lot of that stuff isn't implemented for Wine. You may look around
for another program that can open those files.

Hell, if they're not compressed you could mount it with a loopback device.

It's ok. I've got it working. Ran it as a normal user as you suggested but that actually made no difference but I'll follow your instructions to avoid viruses and run as a normal user in future.

There was actually nothing wrong with Ghost Explorer 11 running under wine. It's just a matter of doing things a certain way. You actually need to highlight the partition on the left and then in the right window, extract the files. It then works like a dream!

Great! Would you mind submitting it to the AppDB? Doesn't look like
it's there (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... n&iId=1806)
