No sound device detected on Fallout 3 Launch?

Post by BlackAndChrome »

I get a message from the fallout 3 launcher telling me that "no sound device detected. Fallout 3 cannot run". Funny thing is that I'm listening to the background sound of the launcher so I am indeed getting sound. Any ideas on a cure? There should be a fallout.exe along with the falloutlauncher.exe in the program files that could possibly bypass the launcher, would that work and were are the WINE files so I can give it a shot?

Thanks,

For some reason it won't let me launch the fallout3.exe... I right click on the fallout3.exe and it simply does nothing. Any other ideas? possibly a way to disable the audio device checking in the falloutlauncher.exe?

Run it from terminal. It may require a full path. See:

yep that worked but when it goes to the main menu after the launcher and my cursur is glued (more like pulls profusely till it centers) to the middle of the screen.

Possibly something to do with this line that was displayed in the terminal?

fixme:dinput:SysMouseAImpl_Acquire Clipping cursor to (0,0)-(800,600)

-B&C

Edit: After looking at this for a while I guess this just binds the curser to inside the area that the screen consumes...

Heres the terminal display, minus some repetive lines that were replaced by "..."

RTFM is more useful when you actually follow it: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.p ... &iId=14322

I went to that page but stopped short at the "bugs" chart and got drawn away toward the links to bugs where I just got myself confused... Next time I'll start scrolling all the way to the bottom.

I installed Direct X9 with Winetricks now how do I use patches? I looked around for a guide/instructions but found none. A link or simple instruction would be much appreciated.

And for the simple mouse fix it says:

If you still have mouse issues, set one of following registry values:
"MouseWarpOverride"="enable"
or
"MouseWarpOverride"="force"

Which registry is this contained in? I found the registries inside the .wine folder but when I searched inside of the I didn't find anything matching "MouseWarpOverride".

As far as this goes would I even need this considering how I'm not having the problem of the mouse leaving the screen and crashing, I'm having the problem of the mouse resisting movement from the center of the screen?

I really appreciate the help guys, although I've used Ubuntu in the past I'm far from a expert in unix commands or even understanding the file system, which seems to encourage me to get lost without a clue of specific file locations.

Wine's registry. use 'wine regedit'.

The page that maps out the registry shows the "mouseWarpOveride" to be located at :HKCU>Software>Wine>DirectInput>MouseWarpOveride

Unfortunately when I go into wine regedit it does not display DirectInput as a subdirectory of Wine,in fact it's just not there.

I've been working on getting Git installed... I did so by "sudo apt-get install git-core git-doc git-email gitk". Is this proper and going to result in the same thing as installing from a tarball? And do I also need to install cURL and libcurl? I'm running Ubuntu Hardy, several guides say I need to so I can only assume so. I'm thinking about going ahead and reformatting to Intrepid because in my "learning process" I've probably achieve creating numerous flaws in allot of stuff.

You have to create it.

For best results, use:
