Same game, different languages. How to report test data?

Post by odecif »

Hi! I have been thinking about this for a while now and I cannot seem to find any precedent nor FAQ about it.

How are we keeping track of games and their various localization versions? I am thinking of something like https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=20551 which is a Macromedia-based edutainment game in the original release language is called "Bygg båtar med Mulle Meck" which seem to have a German version called "Schiffe bauen mit Willy Werkel" (mentioned in bug https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58068) that has a different .exe-filename. Should this localization be a version of "Bygg båtar med Mulle Meck" or should this be reported as a separate application? Or if the version number (1.0) is the same on both releases, should test data be submitted in the same version in AppDB?

I hope the question is somewhat clear, otherwise I'll do my best to clarify :)

There's no set rule; you can find examples of both ways in the AppDB. The rule of thumb I use to decide specific cases is "what is the easiest for users to find?" In this case, the names are so different, I tend to think users will search for the name in their language, so there should be two different entries.
