I'm running Fedora 40 Xfce and recently upgraded from wine-9.15-1 to 10.0-07rc4 using the main fedora "updates" dnf repository.
I’ve been using Quicken 2012 via Wine for quite a while and it has mostly worked fine, but after the upgrade when I try to start my Wine Quicken app the window appears but many things within the window no longer work. For instance clicking on anything in the menu bar does nothing. If I try to move the window by click-dragging on the title bar, I can only move the window vertically, it won’t move horizontally. And as soon as I release the mouse button, the window shifts left, such that much of the window is off screen. Even worse, if I close the window (using the upper-left X button) and start the app again, the window is now shifted left wherever it was when I closed it. Looking at it right now, 3/4 of the window is off the left side of the screen and only the right most 1/4 is visible.
Thinking this might be something related to the window manager I tried to run winecfg and check the “Window settings” under the “Graphics” tab. Problem is the winecfg window is also shifted left mostly off the screen so I can't even see the tabs and I have the same problem if I try to move the window by click-dragging the title bar, the window can’t be moved horizontally only vertically and as soon as I release the mouse, the window shifts even more to the left further off screen.
Is there any way to check the winecfg “Graphics->Window settings” without running winecfg? Are those settings stored in a config file somewhere?
Any help figuring out how to fix this would be appreciated.
Wine 10.0 Broke Existing App
Re: Wine 10.0 Broke Existing App
I was able to stop the window from shifting left when trying to move it it by manually editing $WINEPREFIX/user.reg and changing the "Managed" entry to 'Y' under "[Software\\Wine\\X11 Driver]". Unfortunately, that doesn't fix anything else. The main Quicken window is displayed and appears ok, but many things don't work. For instance, clicking on any of the menu bar items does nothing. Trying to close the window does nothing. So, essentially it's unusable like this.
I can get it to work by using the "winecfg->Graphics->Window settings->Emulate a virtual desktop" setting. When this is enabled, then all the normal Quicken controls appear to work (haven't really tested too much). But at best (IMO) this is a temporary workaround. I'd really like to get back to the behaviour I had with Wine-9.x, which was the Quicken app as just another window on my desktop, I could move it and interact with it just like any other window.
It appears Wine-10 changed how the window manager works with respect to the wine windows in some way.
