Windows 10 Home / Pro -> Possible to let Wine act as "Pro" edition?

Post by gree303 »

Dear fellow winers :)

Is there any possible way/mod/underground method available to set Wine to act as a Windows PRO edition?
Some digging showed that the main difference is related to the Windows License Manager, which gets installed/activated when switching from Home to Pro.

I do own multiple apps which would run perfectly on wine, but can't be used due to this "virtual wall".

Is it somehow possible/legally lawful to port the License Manager from Windows Pro to Wine?
Surely this only makes sense if Wine has internet access and a default webbrowser in case any app uses the License Manager asks for online login to allow License Manager to pass starting the application.
Further a setting in the winecfg would be very handy, switching easily from normal (HOME) to Pro edition.

I'd be using it with programs I own licenses.
So nothing shady aside "Windows License Manager" - which should be still lawful (my guess).

The real question; where to start and into which direction?
Does anyone ever played with Windows License Manger in combination with wine?
Thanks for all input.

Update: Using VM's, even with GPU passthrough (tested) is not an option; these apps don't work in VMs (I suspect VM detection integrated).
