Video in Ableton Live

Hi,

Ableton has worked perfectly for years, though I have never needed the video function until now - which doesn't seem to work.

When playing a video, it puts an empty video frame up quoting ableton's "could not decode video file" message.

After much research I am assuming I have not set wine up correctly to be able to play mp4 files, though after days of trial and error still have not figured it out.

The ableton website has a troubleshooting section for video - advising windows users to install 'haali media splitter', which also didn't seem to work (when installed into the prefix).

I've tried various other codec installs with winetricks.

My guess is a library override needs to be in place? but I don't know where to start.

but I have no idea what to do with this information.

If anyone can help I would be most grateful. This is my first ever post, it was because of this forum I was able to get everything else working so far.

Hi there,

I have had some issues with Ableton Live 11.
I basicly had to force my OS(MxLinux) to run wine with graphics by doing:

__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia WINEARCH=win64 WINEPREFIX=~/.wine64.ableton wine64 explorer.exe
This allowed me to run ableton.

But I never got passed the live activation as I could not run a proper browser to handle the authentication.
And as Ableton 11 does not have an offline authentication method anymore, I am stuck...

I never thought anyone would ever suggest a solution! (Turns out I'm probably right about that)

Your case seems very strange to me as my Live 11 DOES have offline activation.

The only thing I can think of is we are using 2 entirely different software with the same name.
