wine-8.18 Seems to Fix Bug #38668 for Fallout 4 (GOTY Edition) and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Post by TommyC »

Hello,

I don't own Wolfenstein but was wondering if anyone might be able to test wine 8.18 for Wolfenstein with respect to Bug #38668: https://appdb.winehq.org/viewbugs.php?iBugId=38668

I found this bug when trying to identify why dxvk (installed through winetricks) couldn't be used with audio in the games (https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk/issues/434).

The Steam versions of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and Fallout 4 (also GOTY Edition) I've never had problems with, with respect to dxvk and xaudio2_{7,8}.dll, but the GOG versions would have no audio with dxvk or I'd have to play them without dxvk which gave the game a very noticeable performance impact and quickly crash it soon after.

Thankfully, with the latest release of wine 8.18, the GOG version of both games are also working with dxvk and audio flawlessly.

I'm aware wine 8.18's xaudio fix was only for Windows 10 but the bug for the GOG versions of the game occurred for up to wine 8.17 for both Windows 7 and 10 (I didn't try any other versions).

I've rebooted and tried a whole bunch of other things to make sure that I wasn't getting lucky with memory addressing and it seems to be consistent (or at the very least, I've been consistently lucky).

Cheers.
