Nope. Just create one folder, then copy content of cd1 to this folder and then copy content of cd2 to the same folder. When copying cd2 you can have one or two files with the same name as on cd1, so just overwrite them. And then, install the game from this folder.
It must work this way for you too, as my Gold Edition has expansion The Titans on a seperate cd (number 3) so my cd1 and cd2 must be exactly the same as your not Gold Edition version, especially, that publisher of my version is also Ubisoft, so it should be really the same.

I do not know how its in your version, but in Gold Edition there is 4th cd with patch and language localization. I just had to install aom10to110.exe
If you have no file like this on any of your cd, then you can download it from some games portal you trust.

If it goes for playing with no cd, I have not found nocd crack for my version, so I'm playin with the darn cd in the cd reader. But maybe you could try to make an ISO of the first cd with for example AcetoneISO and mount it in the system then you would not need the cd. Thats what I usually do in the case I can not find nocd crack, but I havent tried it yet with Age of Mythology and I think I will finish the game before I will try to make an ISO

Well, its always a little unknown what's inside the downloaded binaries from random sites, but if there is no other option ...
I myself, would for sure download the patch from some trustworthy games portal.

cause when i go throguh update through the cd and the file. i click on update, it says: "error, a connection problem".

When being in PlayOnLinux main list, select the AoM and press "Configure" button. Then the last tab should be something like "Miscellaneous" and under this tab you should have button named "Run .exe file for this virtual prefix" or something similar (my PlayOnLinux is in my native language, so all those are my translation to English, but it should be quite accurate)

ok, so my age of empires iii games are patched.

But, the age3esopatch wont work.

now it giving me a serious problem warning when clicking on it. i didnt launch the game after i update it. was i suppose to launch it first then update it?

i went ahead an ordered some new games of the ones i had issues with. it seems it was time to replace them.

got my blueray player and got my games. looks like age of mythology is now working. moving onto age of empires 3 with brand new discs.
