Weird display issues

I seem to be having unusual display problems with some games. It seems to be games that use the unreal engine.

Instead of displaying full screen or even in a windowed full screen, I get 4 small versions of the display in black and white at the top of the screen and then the games won't run?

It will show the usual who made the game nonsense and then just freeze. I attempted to get a screenshot to show what I mean but seem to be unable to as when the game closes so does the screenshot window, which is kind of annoying but there you go lol.

Wine seems to be getting really good and I have very few issues except this one. It's really bugging me now. I've tried to search for a solution before posting about this, but I'm unable to find anything. Not sure if maybe I just suck at searches and I'm not using the correct search terms?

Either way, here I am. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh also I'm using Wine 7.0.

Ok I managed to grab a screenshot of the same issue in a different game.
Perhaps this will give others a better idea of the issues I'm having.

From the image, it looks like a problem with a codec.
Often there are clues what went wrong when you start the game from the command line.
