On my modified test system with a 3G virtual memory split kernel configuration I was able to run WINE. However, because of requirements I must get WINE to work on an unmodified kernel with a 2G virtual memory split. The system is running Linux Stretch Debian 9.3 with a 32bit ARMv7 CPU and 2GB of memory.
Is there a way to run WINE on a kernel with a 2G VM split either by making non-kernel changes to the environment, or by modifying WINE?
