I'm trying to get this old game to work, and having problems with full screen mode. This is a Gentoo system, with wine ver. 5.0.2 installed.
The game installed okay, but had a lot of graphics problems at first. I found the game setting for OpenGL mode, which improved response immensely. I can run the game in a (small) window, but switching to full screen mode introduces flickers, flashes, and mouse cursor refresh artifacts that make things unusable. Windowed mode seems to function fine, but is too small to make out game detail well. Obviously full screen mode would be preferable, but if there was a way to scale up the window mode, that would be acceptable as an alternative.
I have experimented with settings in winecfg, and with all relevant registry keys under the Direct3D category from here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Useful_Registry_Keys. Note that by default, my version of wine does not create the Direct3D key, but I did try adding it and experimenting with csmt, renderer, VideoMemorySize, and DirectDrawRenderer. No values or settings I tried seemed to make any difference.
Years ago I had this game working on an older Gentoo system (hardware and software) with a much older version of Wine-- so I know it *should* work. There is obviously some setting or configuration I have not found and would appreciate any guidance on what else I should try. Thanks....

Did you try to set a virtual desktop with the same size as your actual desktop?I have experimented with settings in winecfg
Re: Icewind Dale full screen display
Quite few years ago I also tried Icewind Dale through wine and I do not remember having any issues with this game.
What I do in this kind of situations, I go to Playonlinux (as its support for multiple wines is just great) and play those troublesome games through some older wine. I found out that if some older game does not work correctly in newest and coolest wine, most of those times it plays just fine through wine 1.6.2
