Why Wine using mailing list instead Github/Gitlab/Gitea etc.

Post by qarmin »

Hi,
Why Wine still using mailing lists?
Recently I wanted to create patch to fix simple issue - https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49279 but when I read how to create and send patch by mailing list, I just abandon this idea.
Modern Git repositories like Gitlab or Github have probably all required by Wine features(except Forum) but are a lot of easier for casual user/developer.
Also Gitlab and Gitea can be easy self hosted and CI can run on internal machines.

Is there any chance that in future(1,2,5 years) Wine migrate to other solution?

I am not a developer, just a user like you, but based on my research I believe Wine is now using Git. Check out this page I found:

Wine has being using GIT for a long time the problem here is submitting new patches need to be submitted using git mail and that can be annoying.

Oh, so that's the issue. I never made any patches so I don't know about this system.
