Anyone interested in reverse-engineering Windows Media Player's APIs?

Post by Wadmodder »

With the release of newer Windows 10 updates breaking Windows Media Player multiple times every year, it appears Microsoft themselves are extremely poorly maintaining their components being included in their Windows 10 updates. It is speculated that Microsoft doesn't care about WMP being deprecated and/or discontinued, or they don't even bother to bug test their Windows 10 updates to make sure WMP still work in Windows 10.

To this day nobody has ever developed a project to reverse-engineer API's present in WMP to cross-sync in Windows PC software and video games, that was commonly documented by third party developers during Windows Media Player's (version 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, & 12) existence, but remains undocumented by users on forum sites to this day.

Is anybody here at WineHQ interested in reverse-engineering Windows Media Player's APIs (Mainly DLL files) either within Wine or as a separate Wine-related project? Thoughts and Comments are very well appreciated.

If you are not sure what the DLL files could be here's a link to WikiDLL's page on official Microsoft DLL files:

https://wikidll.com/microsoft

Try finding anything not only related to Windows Media Player, but also on Image Files, Audio/Video Codecs and Multimedia Playback for software that utilize WMP on Windows.

Find the correct DLL files, give me your answers.
