I'm trying to use Wine to operate a device over IP

Post by Kyle_P »

Hi, I'm new to the world of Linux and Wine, so please try to keep your explanations simple and forgive me if I have trouble understanding your responses.

I have a vinyl cutter that I'm trying to operate from a Linux machine. The windows programmes I'm trying to run are: Summa Cutter Tools https://www.summa.eu/downloads?file=setupSCT.exe; and WinPlot https://www.summa.eu/downloads?file=SetupWinplot.exe.

I've successfully installed and can run both programmes, but they can't seem to communicate properly with the cutter. Interestingly, when I go to add a cutter on WinPlot, it will automatically detect the cutter, but when I try to send a file to cut it's unable to retrieve the information from the cutter. Summa Cutter Control, installed via Summa Cutter Tools, again will auto-detect the cutter but will just display "No machine connected!".

The cutter can be connected via USB, but it does require drivers and to my understanding this is not possible with Wine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
