I am trying to run Winlink Express, Telnet connection,
On Linux Mint.
Winlink Express version: 1.5.25.0
Linux Mint: current as of today (11/26/2019) 19.2 Tina
WINE version: current stable as of today (11/26/2019)
I have used the WINE setup to enable all of the Winlink Express .exe files under Win 7, then Win 10, then global. Yes I tried all three.
With Mint showing a good solid Internet connection, I used WINE to connect to the Internet using Internet Explorer from in the WINE Windows files.
But with Mint showing a good solid Internet connection, every attempt to initiate a Telnet connection from Winlink Express displays "unable to connect to CMS, no Internet connection"
Problem - how to have Winlink Express recognize the Internet connection
Thank you.
Winlink Express

Sorry to ask stupid questions, but Telnet connection, isn`t that really outdated? Can the program be configured to use other connection or do you need this one?
Also: post terminal output here, maybe it reveals something

Re: Winlink Express
Hi,
Winlink can use several different processes on HF or VHF but when no RF connection is available it can also send and receive email through an Internet connection using Telnet. So, no Winlink is not outdated.
I am running the Winlink through the HTTP and can monitor the terminal window.
The terminal output consists of:
input pat http
output 2019/11/30 14:09:36 Starting HTTP service (:8080)...
(action from the http = select connect)
(action from the HTTP set the choices to =
transport: telnet target: wl2k
address: K7HB:[email protected]:8772
select connect)
output 2019/11/30 14:49:36 Connecting to WL2K (telnet) ...
output 2019/11/30 14:54:43 Unable to establish connection to remote: dial tcp: i/o timeout
And that is all the terminal shows.

Re: Winlink Express
Hi,
I`m completely not familiar with this program, but maybe it`s an idea to ask other user if he has the same problem with telnet connection , as there was another thread about this program here: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33062
In that thread he says program works ok in wine4.19, but don`t know if he uses same connection as you, but maybe he knows something more about it (more then me at least..) Just an idea
